Academic Experience
Academic Experience
Duke TIP courses are dynamic, fast-paced, and intense. Students attend a single class for seven hours each weekday and three hours each Saturday.
Instructional Staff
In each class, an Instructor and Teaching Assistant (TA) work together to provide each student with an outstanding learning experience. Duke TIP Instructors are selected for their expertise in their field of study and are committed to providing challenging, intensive, interesting and high-energy educational experiences at the college level. Instructors employ a variety of instructional strategies not always available in the normal curriculum, including
- Debates
- Class discussions
- Simulations of real-world activities
- Peer teaching or presentations
- Lab experiences
- Individual or group research projects
“Every aspect of the program from the boarding to the classroom experience and interaction with the instructor were very well organized. All my above expectations were fulfilled and [my child] had a very enriching summer!”—TIP in India Summer Studies participant

Evaluation
Duke TIP assigns neither a letter nor a numeric final grade. At the end of program, instructors will complete an evaluation that assesses the student’s performance. This non-graded approach encourages a collaborative environment in which students become comfortable taking intellectual risks.
