Duke TIP FAQs
1. What is the eligibility criteria for qualifying to Duke TIP?
Ans: To enroll in the Talent Search students must:
- Be currently enrolled in the seventh standard.
- Attend a school that has accepted the invitation to participate in the Duke TIP Talent Search in India.
- Attend a school that has enrolled in ASSET testing for 2011.
- Have scored at the 95th percentile or higher on the English, Math or Science sections of the in-level ASSET test taken in December 2010 or Summer 2011. Students need to qualify in only one of the accepted subtests.
2. What is the fee for the above-level test?
Ans: The non-refundable enrollment fee for the Talent Search in India is Rs. 1,000. This fee covers the cost of the above-level ASSET test administered in November 2011 and all talent search benefits through the student’s ninth standard year. Travel expenses to and from the testing site will be each family’s responsibility.
3. On what date will the above- level test held be held?
Ans: The above-level ASSET test will be administered on Sunday, November 27, 2011.
4. In which cities will the above level test be held?
Ans: Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Guwahati, Dehradun and Kolkata. However, a final list of testing locations will depend on the number of students registered at each site. Students should consider which test center is most convenient when applying online.
5. In which subjects will the students be tested?
Ans: All the students will need to take the test for all the three subjects-English, Math and Science. This is irrespective of the subject from which the student has qualified.
6. How can I prepare for the above level test?
Ans: Duke TIP and ASSET do not recommend that students take part in excessive test preparation. Talent search testing is diagnostic in nature and unnecessary anxiety is often the only obvious result from some preparation programs. It is sufficient to be familiar with the structure of the test, timing of each section, recommended guessing strategies, and to complete practice questions provided. This testing experience does not have a pass or fail component, and along with other academic indicators such as grades, it can provide additional information for parents to evaluate.
7. How can students enroll for the Talent Search?
Ans: Students can enroll in the Talent Search in India online. Online enrollment will require net banking, a
Mastercard or Visa credit card, or demand draft (DD). The demand draft should be made in the name of
“Educational Initiatives Pvt. Ltd. payable at Ahmedabad.
