IIM-A alumni is holding a unique contest for teachers
When, what, where and how … Perhaps, these words stimulate the grey cells. In a nutshell, good questions help and contribute in developing thinking individuals. Therefore designing a good question is both an art and a science. Thinking on these lines, Educational Initiatives (EI), Ahmedabad, is organising an all-India question-making competition for school teachers.
EI introduced a Question Making Competition (QMC) for teachers all over India. This is a unique competition to recognise and reward the best in the teaching profession. The teachers will have to send at least three to six questions in one or more subjects — English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
The competition, being held for the third year, is to prove the importance of good questions in making learning interesting. It is open to teachers of English medium schools. Questions can be made from standard III to standard IX subjects. It should be multiple-choice questions.
In Madurai, more than 37 teachers from Jeevana School, Maruthu Rukmani Matriculation School, Lakshmi School, Vikaasa School, Akshara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, TVS Matriculation Higher Secondary School and K.A.C.A. Arunachalam Higher Secondary School have already registered for the competition. So far, 4019 teachers from 625 schools across the country have registered for the competition.
A panel will assess the questions and prizes will be given to the best questions. The competition began on August 4 and will be on till September 4. Registrations can be done online through the website www.ei-india.com or can be e-mailed to asset-qmc@ei-india.com.
Five teachers will be selected in each subject as first prize winners. They will be sent to Singapore on an educational tour. The other prizes are: laptops for Best Performance School Awards at National and Zonal levels, DVDs for Special recognition to 15 teachers on question quality and digicam for Best Participating Awards to five schools.
EI is an effort by a group of alumni from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
