Teacher Effectiveness and Improvement Programme
The Teacher Effectiveness and Improvement Programme is an organized study of teachers in action in the classrooms, based on subject knowledge, classroom transactions and professionalism, thereby providing them a profitable period for learning and development. The focus is on teacher growth. They will cooperatively engage in a systematic evaluation of their performance in curriculum delivery. This in turn will help schools identify teacher potentials, staff development needs and the identification of other contributory factors for school improvement.

Why Educational Initiatives?
- Experienced Resource Persons with over 200 years of teaching experience among them
- Learnings from interactions with over 100 schools in the country through workshops. .
- Experience in conducting classroom observations, and helping teachers improve effectiveness in long-term projects e.g. Lilavati Podar School (Mumbai), TVS Schools (Madurai)
- Learnings from different sources to create templates for classroom observation and teacher work assessment.
Proposed Approach
Preparing all students for success is the most fundamental goal of any progressive school. Research suggests that children placed with the most proficient teachers make up to six times the progress of similar students in other classrooms. The teacher is the most important factor in determining learning outcomes, so teacher quality becomes central to system improvement. Hence there is the need to ensure that all teachers have:
- Mastery of their subject matter and understanding of child development.
- A full range of teaching strategies to address the diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
- Ability to motivate students and raise their expectations.
- Ability to embed technology in instruction to expand classroom walls and make learning relevant.
- Capacity to understand and support the vision of the school system.
In EI’s experience, providing feedback to teachers based on classroom observations, evaluation of lesson plans and other teacher work, is a proven way to achieve continuous improvement of teacher effectiveness. EI will also coach “Teacher Coaches” within Schools to undertake a similar exercise on their own, so that the schools are enabled to use this as a continuous practice after the expert team phases out on the completion of the programme
